Want to build a Robot??? Catch a "Ray" of Sunshine... Or a BEAM Online...

Pretty much my favorite reference site thus far has been Solarbotics. Lot's of great information for anyone starting out or just wanting to learn more!

While you're there... check out Ray's BEAM Bots for a plethora of great tutorials!

BEAM Online is also a great site with all the ins and outs of BEAM! I would definitely recommend this one to be used as a bible of sorts for those of you starting out like me!

Stick around... we'll be building before you know it!

Soldering Iron Aquired!

Still awaiting the arrival of the book that will help me begin building robots from my junk... but I do have my soldering iron! WOOHOO!

Basic, Weller soldering iron. 40 watts. Up to 900 degrees. About 17 bucks at Home Depot.

I am excited to build something. I've considered buying a kit just to get the feel for it, but it kind of ruins the fun of finding all the parts on your own. Anyway stick around... Soon I'll be building a robot!

It all begins here!

So I bought a couple of Hexbug Nano's the other day for amusement at work and don't get me wrong... they are a ton of fun! However when I began to post some of my friends and my bug's races on youtube, I discovered that one can basically build the same thing with a toothbrush head and a cell phone vibrator.

This got me researching and that was when I stumbled upon the acronym BEAM!

Biology - Why wouldn't you imitate it?
Electronics - The simple components to drive your little bots
Aesthetics - With a background in graphic design and as an independent comic artist, this naturally for me is a must!!!
Mechanics - The bread and butter of what makes your robot walk, slide, move the way you want it to.

The more I researched, the more this began to scratch my brain right where it itches!

So I've ordered a copy of "Junkbots, Bugbots and Bots on Wheels" pictured in this entry and I'm off today to aquire a soldering iron.

This is literally the beginning of my journey! I hope you will all come along with me! See you all soon with my projects! Keep watching for the forum. I really think a good BEAM Bot forum is needed and I am developing one now!

Happy botting!
